Sixth Form students at Shireland CBSO Academy had the opportunity to hear from BdCpl Georgina Dawkins and BdCpl Joanne Leonard of the Royal Marines Band Service during a special Futures Talk. The session offered valuable insights about the various roles within the Royal Military Band Service and the essential role of the music school in high-profile national events.
The visiting band service members shared their experiences of performing at significant occasions such as King Charles III’s Coronation and the state funeral of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Their accounts highlighted the dedication, discipline, and musical excellence required to serve in this prestigious unit.
Students also learned about the Royal Marines’ Life Course, a free residential programme designed for young people aged 15 and over. This course offers an immersive experience of life in the Royal Marines Band Service and serves as an excellent opportunity for those considering a future in military music.
