  • The Options Process and how it works
  • How your choices can link to future courses and careers
  • The compulsory subjects you must take
  • The English Baccalaureate
  • Home Languages
  • The options subjects you can choose from

Following a presentation from the Principal, you will be able to visit our ‘Subject Marketplace’. Here, you can meet subject staff, find out more about each course, and ask any questions you may have.

Careers theme in L4L

The Options Evening marks just the beginning of the process. The next stage involves the ‘Careers’ theme, which will be delivered through L4L lessons. Within this theme, students will be introduced to a range of information designed to help them understand the future pathways available at ages 16, 18, and beyond, as they consider their future career options.

Options WEBSITE

The Options pages on the SCBSO website provides information on every available subject. Take time to visit the Options site and review the information provided by each department. This will give you insight into what each course involves, how it is assessed, and what it may lead to in further education.

Support and Questions

If you have any questions about specific qualifications, home languages, or other aspects of the options process, please email info@scbso.shirelandcat.net. Our Exams Officer will be able to assist you.

Making your choices

Soon, you will be making your first major choices that will help set you on your future path. You will need to select a minimum of two subjects to study, and there will be some subjects which you will no longer study from the start of Year 10.

The subjects you choose now can affect the options available to you for Post-16 courses, so it is essential to make well-informed decisions. Support and advice are available every step of the way.
