Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Sport (603/7068/3).
Three mandatory components delivered over two years:

- Taking Part and Improving Other Participants’ Sporting Performance
- Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants’ Performance in Sport and Physical Activity

Overall, 60% coursework and 40% exam.

Component 1: Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity
- Explore different types and provisions of sport and physical activity
- Understanding the availability of different sports to varying participants, whilst considering barriers to participation
- Researching equipment and technology, especially advancements in a chosen sport or physical activity
- Understanding how to prepare our bodies for participation in sport and physical activity
Component 2: Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance
- Investigate components of fitness and their effect on athlete performance
- Observe and investigate a performance whilst considering and applying methods and sporting drills to improve performance
- Gain a greater understanding of officiating within given sports
Component 3: Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants Performance in Sport and Physical Activity
- Develop and explain in detail the importance and different types of physical fitness and each of their importance within sport and physical activity
- Construct an understanding of the fitness testing and the overall effects of fitness on the body, including understanding the body during sporting or physical activity participation
What equipment will I need?
- SCBSO PE kit for practical lessons
- Trainers suitable for indoor and outdoor activities (boots are not required)
- Access to basic sports equipment
- Access to a working laptop (provided by SCBSO)

Frequently Asked Questions about Sport
Do i need to be good at sport?
No – the course focuses on understanding and improving performance, not just playing at an elite level. However, being able to understand and perform basic skills across at least one sport will be beneficial.
Do I have to play for a team or regularly participate in either an individual or team sport?
No, but having experience of one or both will help understanding some of the lessons.
Is there an exam?
Yes, one external written exam at the end of the course. The rest is coursework based which you will do in school.
Is every lesson a practical lesson taking part in sport?
No, the course itself is heavily theory-based and therefore you will spend a lot of time in the classroom. However, some lessons will require practical lessons to support your learning and assessments.
Do I get to choose which sports we do?
During the course you will look at a variety of sports. Most of the sports you undergo during the course will be chosen by your teacher. However, there are some aspects of the course where you will perform your preferred sport.
Will I still get to study core PE?
Yes, you will still have your regular core PE lesson each week.
