Shireland CBSO Academy has achieved the Inclusive Attendance Bronze Award, recognising its commitment to creating an inclusive academy culture where students feel connected, supported and able to take part fully in the opportunities available to them.
The award was presented during a Trust-wide Inclusive Attendance Conference, held at the new Shireland Training Centre in Oldbury. The event brought together academy leaders and attendance teams from across the Trust to celebrate progress, share learning and look ahead to the next stage of the Inclusive Attendance Standard.
The Inclusive Attendance Standard is a professional development programme designed to help schools build a culture where attendance is recognised as a shared responsibility across the whole school community. The Bronze Award is the first stage of the programme and recognises schools that have demonstrated a clear commitment to inclusive attendance through reflection, implementation and evidence-informed practice.
At Shireland CBSO Academy, the development journey has provided an opportunity for staff to reflect on how attendance supports the wider student experience. This includes ensuring young people can fully engage with the academy’s specialist curriculum, creative opportunities and the relationships that help them grow in confidence.
The Academy will now progress towards the Silver Award stage of the Inclusive Attendance Standard, continuing to build on the work already established and further strengthening its approach to supporting students and families.
School Principal, David Green, said: “Being part of Shireland CBSO Academy is about giving young people opportunities to discover their talents, build confidence and find their voice. The experiences students have here, whether in the classroom, through music or as part of the wider academy community, help shape who they become.
“Attendance matters because those experiences happen through being part of the community every day. When students feel connected to their school, supported by the adults around them and proud of what they are achieving, they are more likely to engage, participate and make the most of every opportunity in front of them.”
By continuing to strengthen its approach to inclusive attendance, Shireland CBSO Academy is supporting students to access the full breadth of experiences that contribute to their learning, development and future success.
