Year 9 students visited Birmingham City University (BCU) as part of Shireland CBSO Academy’s careers education programme, providing them with the opportunity to explore higher education and learn more about the different pathways available after secondary school.
During the campus visit, students explored degree-level courses, learned more about higher apprenticeships, met current BCU students and visited a range of university departments.
The visit was part of the school’s wider careers provision, which supports students from Year 7 through to Year 13 with a range of activities, guidance and opportunities designed to help them make informed decisions about their next steps. The programme includes careers workshops, employer and university talks, workplace experiences, careers guidance appointments and skills development.
Based in the heart of Birmingham, Birmingham City University is home to more than 30,000 students from over 100 countries. The University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with a strong focus on practical learning and developing skills that connect with industry and employment.
For students, the visit offered a valuable insight into university life, allowing them to ask questions, explore different study options and gain a better understanding of the routes they could take in the future.
