Students from Shireland CBSO Academy completed a residential visit to the Frank Chapman Outdoor Education Centre in Bewdley as part of the school’s wider personal development programme.
During the visit, students took part in outdoor group activities including climbing, canoeing and kayaking, alongside evening activities such as karaoke. The programme was designed to complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to develop teamwork, communication and resilience.
Set within 90 acres of ancient woodland, the Frank Chapman Centre delivers residential outdoor education programmes for schools, with activities taking place in a natural environment intended to support collaboration, independence and problem-solving.
The residential formed part of the Academy’s structured approach to personal development, which includes opportunities for students to build confidence, strengthen relationships and apply key learning skills outside of the classroom.
School Principal, David Green, said: “Residentials like this are when you really see students come into their own. The way they adapted to a new learning environment was impressive, especially when many of them would have felt pushed out of their comfort zones.
“Those experiences make a real difference when they come back to school. They are more independent, more willing to take on challenges and more confident in how they work with others and support each other. It was great to see them return from the trip with a real sense of achievement.”
The Academy looks forward to providing more opportunities like this to support students’ personal development, helping to build confidence, strengthen relationships and develop key skills that support learning both in and beyond the classroom.
