Year 8 student, Shiyenne, from Shireland CBSO Academy in West Bromwich, achieved an amazing milestone after earning her black belt in both kickboxing and karate.
The accomplishment reflects years of dedication, discipline and rigorous training, placing Shiyenne among a select group of martial artists to reach black belt in two demanding disciplines at such a young age.
Shiyenne trained at the Martial Arts Centre of Excellence (MACE) in West Bromwich, an academy which delivers combined programmes including multiple martial arts disciplines. MACE provides a safe, welcoming environment for students of all ages and abilities, delivering practical self-defence skills alongside confidence and resilience.
Delving into the world of martial arts is a journey that demands perseverance, focus and commitment. Achieving a black belt is widely recognised as a symbol of mastery and expertise, representing years of hard work, mental discipline and physical dedication. Shiyenne’s achievement signifies not only a high level of skill in self-defence techniques but also a deep understanding of the principles and philosophies that underpin martial arts.
Principal, David Green, said: “When young people like Shiyenne dedicate themselves to something they’re passionate about, they develop qualities that extend far beyond the training hall. Discipline, self-belief and resilience learned through martial arts have a profound effect on how students approach their studies, friendships and future ambitions. This achievement is a testament to her hard work and character, and we are immensely proud.”
The Academy extends its congratulations to Shiyenne, whose achievement is an inspiring example for the whole school community.
