International Saxophonist Jess Gillam Inspires Students with Music Workshop

There was an air of excitement at Shireland CBSO Academy as students welcomed internationally acclaimed saxophonist, Jess Gillam. 

Gillam, who is currently performing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, shared her musical journey and expertise with students as she worked her way to becoming a renowned musician.  

Throughout the afternoon, Gillam inspired students with performances on both the alto and soprano saxophone, showcasing her talent and inspiring the next generation of aspiring musicians.  

In addition to her performances, Gillam offered her invaluable tips and guidance for practice and improvement. She emphasised the importance of students immersing themselves in music, discovering artists that resonate with them, collaborating and playing with peers whenever possible and embracing the learning journey with patience and perseverance.  

The highlight of the afternoon was a special inspiration session tailored for the Academy’s saxophone players, where Gillam provided personalised guidance on how students can enhance their musical tone and technique.  

Students participated with boundless enthusiasm, concluding the event with renewed passion and eagerness to apply Gillam’s insights into their own learning.
