School holds ground breaking ceremony for new building

We were delighted to welcome staff from Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and Galliford Try to a Ground Breaking Ceremony on the site of the Academy’s sports facilities today.

Work is well underway on the site in West Bromwich to transform the former BT Building in Providence Place into the new school building, with sports facilities located a short walk away on Sandwell Road.

Sir Mark Grundy, CEO of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, gave a short speech and musicians from the CBSO played a violin duet before Sir Mark Grundy, Stephen Maddock OBE, Chief Executive of the CBSO, and David Green, Principal Designate of the new Academy, made the symbolic first dig into the ground.

Work is expected to continue until next summer when the Academy is scheduled be ready for its first intake of Year 7 and Year 12 students in September 2023.

The school is open to ALL students across Sandwell and the wider West Midlands regardless of their musical experience, as long as they have a passion for music.

Find out more about the school at our open day on Saturday 24 September, hosted at our sister school West Bromwich Collegiate Academy.
